Local Historical Groups Share Open House Dates on May 17 and June 21, 2009
The Wissahickon Valley Historical Society, the Whitpain Historical Society, and the Wissahickon Watershed Association will have sites open on May 17 and June 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. This is a great opportunity to visit three local sites in one afternoon!
The Franklinville School
The Franklinville School on Morris Road just north of
Normandy Farms and 202 is the only remaining local
one room schoolhouse still open to the public. Built in
1858, it was open as a school until 1916. Neglected for
years, it was rescued by the Whitpain Historical Society.
It contains a model classroom with school artifacts.
The Evans-Mumbauer Mill
The Evans-Mumbauer Mill is located in Upper
Gwynedd on Evansburg Road off of Township Line
Road. The site of various types of mills since 1713,
Thomas Evans opened it as a fulling mill and saw mill.
It has also served as a grist mill and a forge. It is
operated by the Wissahickon Valley Watershed
Association and is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places. Join us on May 17 or June 21.
