The Valley Crier Newsletter

Welcome to the Merry Month of May!

The Valley Crier explains…

Our May meeting will be a busy one!!!

  • There will be a short business meeting to consider proposed changes to the WVHS Bylaws.
  • The new Executive Director of the Historical Society of Montgomery County will stop by to say hello.
  • Our speaker is film-maker and author Anthony Stelletti, who will speak on Philadelphia’s Lazaretto Quarantine Station, one of the oldest in the world and on the NRHP. Ships and their passengers stopped here to be checked for yellow fever (and later other illnesses) before entering the port.  Stelletti and his wife have recently published a book on this topic.

Also in May, plan to attend the Open House at the Franklinville School on Sunday, May 18, 1-3 PM.  It is furnished as a 19th-century classroom and listed on the NRHP. Find out more about how it was used as a community center after the consolidation of schools in Whitpain Township–and find out why a phone line was put in–for just one day!

Finally, see photos from the 1895’s Open House and its water leak, and much more…
